The SPA at the HYATT HOTEL (808-742-1234)
is first class and well worth a visit. Non-guests can purchase a daily
or five-day pass and use the aerobics and gym equipment. The spa services include massage, skin care, hair care,
nail care, fitness classes. Check out at Kiahuna is
12:00 noon. If your plane does
not leave until late afternoon or evening, the Hyatt offers use of one of their
rooms from 7am to 6pm, as well as all the hotel facilities. The charge for
the room is 1/2 of the lowest room rate.
Kauai
is an Hawaiian island of seven micro climates ranging from dry
desert to tropical rain forest. Poipu Beach has a semi-arid
tropical climate. The nearby Haupu Mountain range blocks most
prevailing showers. The average annual rainfall in Poipu is 34
inches. When showers make it into the Poipu area, they are usually brief.
In the winter,
daytime temperatures in Poipu range from the mid 70's to the lower
80's. Nighttime temperatures are in the low to mid 60's. In the
summer, daytime temperatures go as high as the upper 80's, and
during the night, down into the low 70's.
We always recommend
wearing natural fiber clothing such as cotton which is most
comfortable in the tropics. We also recommend packing a sweater or
jacket and long pants to take on trips up into the mountains,
where the air, at 4,000 feet, is cooler.
The
KAUAI MUSEUM located at 4428 Rice Street in Lihue is a
good place to visit. You may find that your tours of the island
are greatly enhanced by understanding the island and its culture.
Coming into Lihue from Kiahuna go straight at the stoplight rather
than veering left on Highway 50 -- you will be on Rice Street.
